Rate analysis of ASP roofing sheets per square meter in Nepal

 Overview

ASP roofing sheet is a mix of three layers: ASA, GI, and PVC. ASA is a kind of thermoplastic resin that provides resistance to heat, preserves the color and durability of the sheet. The GI steel layer underneath provides better load-resistant features and promotes the longevity of the roofing sheet. The third layer is a pvc layer that provides flexibility to the sheet. Overall, the ASP roofing sheet is light-weight, has better sound insulation, and is resistant to fire and corrosion. It comes in various thicknesses in the Nepali market; the most common is 1 mm, with a fixed width of 3 feet, and its length varies from 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, and 18 feet, with an approximate weight of 5.5 kg per sq. m. It has various color options and can be used over both steel and timber truss structures. It’s features and appearance make it more elegant than other roofing sheets like CGI and PVC. The use of ASP roofing sheets is more common in hospital and school buildings than in residential buildings in Nepal.

• DUDBC norms

The calculation follows the basic steps of

• Material estimate and cost
• Workers estimate
• Cost of tools and equipment used
• Contractor's overhead and profit

 

Calculations

For the rate analysis, we have divided the roofing work into two parts: 

1. Rate analysis for ASP roofing sheet work
2. Rate analysis for ASP ridge cover work

 

Consider a roof or slope area of 10 square meters.

Considering waste and overlapping portions, provide 20% extra roofing sheet.

ASP sheet: 12 sq. m.

From DUDBC code, we follow the norms of roofing sheets.

Self-tapping screw with clip set: 30 nos.

J hook: 25nos. (almost 3kg depending on the size)

 

Cost of materials as per KTM district rate: 080/81

ASP corrugated sheet: 12 sq. m at 1129.00 = Rs. 13548.00

Self-tapping screw with clip set: 30 nos. at 21 = Rs. 630

J hook: 3 kg at 146 = Rs. 438

Material cost: 13548.00 + 630 + 438 = Rs. 14616.00

 

Workers from DUDBC norms of roofing sheets work

Skilled workers: 1.10 at 1200.00 = Rs.1320.00

Unskilled workers: 1.25 at 900.00 = Rs. 1125.00

Workers cost: 1320.00 + 1125.00 = Rs. 2445.00

 

Cost of hiring tools and plants

Tools and plants: 3% of unskilled workers = 3% of 1125.00 = Rs 33.75

 

Total cost: materials cost + workers + tools and plants

                  = 14616.00 + 2445.00 + 33.75

Total cost: Rs. 17094.75

 

Contractor's overhead and profit

Contractor overhead: 15% of total cost = 15% of 17094.75 = Rs. 2564.21

 

Cost of 10 sq. m of ACP roofing work: 17094.75 + 2564.21 = Rs. 19658.96

Cost per square meter of ACP roofing work: 19658.96/10 = Rs. 1965.89

Others

Similar calculation procedures are taken into consideration for the rate analysis of the roofing sheet work of CGI and PVC sheets too. The number of workers and accessories is the same  for all three kinds of roofing sheet work.

The rate of ASP roofing sheet work is around 40% higher as compared to 26-gauge colored CGI roofing sheet work. At the same time, ASP roofing sheet work is around 25%–30% lower as compared to 3mm UPVC roofing sheet work.
